It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Things have been, well, just a tad hectic. A big reason for this is that I’m changing jobs. After seven great years at JohnstonWells, I’ve decided to leave and join the team at Realtime Worlds working on the game in the video above. I’m very excited! More details to come…

Hot of the heals of my favorite SciFi movie in years (Star Trek) is another intriguing entry – District 9. It’s produced by Peter Jackson, which is a good thing, but it also has a first-time director and a bunch of no-name actors. However, it looks great and has a very interesting plot. The video above is not the trailer, but one of Sony’s clever social media teasers they’ve been running. Fingers crossed…

I’ve had a love-hate relationship with the Harry Potter movies. It’s probably because I’m such a huge fan of the books and more often than not, prefer a book over it’s movie counterpart. For me HP5 was a disaster, but I really did enjoy The Half Blood Prince. The ending was a bit of a disappointment, but overall I liked the actors as usual and the movie did a good job pulling me in with its breathtaking scenery and various weather effects. Not sure what is, but I love movies with rain and snow…something the HP movies (and books) have in abundance.

Looking forward to the final movie(s).

I first tweeted about this video the day after it came out – had about 500,000 views. Now it’s five days later and it’s up to 2.2M! Amazing. A PR nightmare for United and social media case study for the rest of us. Nice job Dave Carroll.

Big changes are on the horizon for the world of Azeroth. Blizzard announced today (via a blue post) that they will soon allow players to change factions. Yes, I said factions. This is HUGE. I’ve been playing this game since launch and can only remember a handful of changes with this much potential impact.

I’ve never really been in the crowd requesting this change. My intial thought is that it’s fine. But we’ll have to wait and see how Blizzard ultimately implements it. I’m sure there will be a fee (probably a steep one) and some restrictions on gear, achievements, etc. But nevertheless, for those second guessing their decision, I’m sure it will be worth it. For me? TBD.

June 1st marked the start of the 2009 ozone season in Colorado. And yesterday, more than 200 local moms, dads and kids and 50 local business leaders joined the Regional Air Quality Council at the Denver Zoo to help zoo something about it.

Attendees at the event received free admission to the Zoo, a live animal demonstration and most importantly, the opportunity to pledge to take simple steps towards improving air quality in Colorado.

Well, E3 is wrapped up for 2009 and while I didn’t get to attend, I’m excited about all the good stuff that came out of it. In particular I can’t wait for All Points Bulletin, the new online game and “best of E3 winner” that is being developed by Realtime Worlds. They have an office not far from my house and a friend of mine works there. From the sounds of things, this is going to be a great game. I’m looking forward to an MMO that breaks the much over-played fantasy model we’ve been experiencing these last few years (yes, I’m talking about you WoW, AoC, WAR, LotR, etc).

If you follow Digg (like we do here at JW) to keep an eye on what the Internet is abuzz about, you probably noticed that Facebook was part of a very popular Digg story yesterday. And not for the “800 zillion active users” reason you normally see. It was Dugg 5,960 times over the last two days because of privacy.

I honestly don’t have much time to post here…must kill more Super Mutants…but I wanted to tell my many, many readers (hehe) how much I love this game. Not since Half-Life has a gaming world pulled me in like the post-apocalyptic landscape in Fallout 3 (and that includes Azeroth…which is quite immersing in it’s own right).

This game is so open-ended. I ran around D.C. for hours before even taking on a quest. And I love all the customization options to our character. Of course, how much this ultimately impacts gameply is TBD. But for now I’m enjoying my stealh-spec’d sniper. g
